About this deal

A piece that can be traced back to a famous owner or event will always be more valuable than one with no history attached to it. A: This little transistor radio set was made for MGM in Hong Kong in 1972 and 1973 and distributed by Louis Marx. Originally known as ‘baby champ’, the drink was created by Francis Showering in Somerset, England before being launched in 1953. Original champagne glass with the white all four legs together fawn logo and dark blue ‘BABYCHAM’ listing around the base.

The value of Babycham glasses can range from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars, depending on the factors mentioned above. Since its inception in the early 1960s, Babycham has been known for its chic, retro-inspired branding. Dartington, which now has 110 employees, celebrates its 40th anniversary next year with an exhibition and commemorative book.In the early sixties there is still a hexagonal stem but this then changes to a rounded stem in the mid/late 60s. Long unfashionable, classic Dartington, says McConnell, is now as cheap as new Ikea glass, but is tipped as an up-and-coming collectable. This classic Babycham glass brought back so many good memories of my childhood - I remember my nan sitting sipping her Babycham every Christmas and thinking how sophisticated she looked! At the Kosta and Orrefors works in Sweden and Holmegaard, Denmark, they were the first visitors to be invited through creaking steel fire doors into strong-rooms containing thousands of sample products and hundreds of thousands of pages of illustrated catalogues. I actually have a pillow made from some kind of promotional Babycham fabric featuring what I think is the 60s deer and the slogan “I’d just love a Babycham”.

They have a flared out from top and base straight up and down round stem to the glass with a gold gilt rim. Early 1960’s: Champagne glass with a Orange/brown fawn logo facing left with legs out together and a lighter blue striped ‘BABYCHAM’ listing around the base. So, if you have any documentation or information about the provenance of a particular Babycham glass, be sure to hang onto it.
