About this deal

There’ve been other Freddys and there will probably be more, in other country towns where her long-suffering husband is posted. I can't judge any other storylines because I DNFed this, but I didn't like where it was going with the racism element.

In the tradition of Brené Brown’s bestseller The Gifts of Imperfection, this illuminating book by an acclaimed professor at the London School of Economics explores how the pursuit of perfection can become a dangerous obsession that leads to burnout and depression—keeping us from achieving our goals. Thus far, like the bridge, they have been bent but not broken, but their futures are very much in doubt. There is a glimmer of hope for a follow on novel as there are other battles that Ellyssa will face; some that are a little too close to home.It wasn’t until I was writing the blurb, just before publication, that I saw that their story was really part of a larger idea. Author Faith Chang addresses the struggles of her fellow "Christian perfectionists" through meditations on God’s character. What they learn over the course of the book is that having unhappy baggage isn’t a moral failure, it’s just being human.

The master race” creation is an ongoing memory for certain generations but this adaption is a good interpretation of the true intentions of a cruel leader in a time of war. In my anxious pursuit of perfection, Chang points me to Christ—the founder and perfecter of our faith—and his perfect love casts out my fear. When a renegade is brought in to The Center he is able to "speak" to Ellyssa through telepathy, which is her particular special ability.

And while many of us continually try to perfect ourselves with the latest fashion trends, beauty products or gym regimes, Curran argues that “it’s society that’s broken, not us” (248).

I enjoyed the story and thought the author's writing style was great, but I don't know why I'm having such a hard time writing this review.Born in Sydney, Australia, in 1950, Kate Grenville holds degrees from the University of Sydney and the University of Colorado.
