About this deal

And now I've discovered that the whole battlemat curves up off the table in a neat-o arch style reminiscent of the Roman Aqueducts.

I am joking, but I can assure you that even permanent markers can easily be cleaned off Chessex maps after months if you use isopropyl alcohol to clean it off. In IMT threads, members of our community can promote their own work, including commercial projects and crowdfunding. We apologize for the long delay on releasing these new mats and for any frustration this may have caused. I love my Chessex battlemats, but 1) the vinyl doesn't play well with dry-erase and 2) they're blank grids (squares on one side, hexes on the other, as Borbetomagnus noted) so you're constantly having to draw in terrain features, usually in a very abstract style. I don't own one of their two-sided mats, but I have friends who do, and the two-sided mats don't lay flat after being rolled up for storage. My Chessex Battlemat (20+ years and going strong : those were *not* 'Made in China') is within reaching distance .

Bonus: this can double as a hard material in which you can wedge your extra character sheets in to keep them from crumpling down the edges. As for the curling, I either put stuff on the corners or simply lay it facedown for an hour before the game and most of the curling disappears. ONE OF THE BEST RPG MATS ON THE MARKET - This dry erase battle grid map is double sided, affordable and long lasting.Because these Battlemats are made of vinyl, Chessex considers them stain resistant (“spills wipe away easily”).

I'd still use it, except the threat of the metal dice used by obstinate, dice worshiping players is a potentially dangerous situation. The Chessex Battlemat is a “expanded” (i guess they mean stretched) vinyl mat with 1″ Squares on one side and 1′ Hexes on the reverse side. That's why almost everything I use is on GW 25mm round bases, upside down, with the mini's original base cut to let it sit inside of it. Get yourself a large piece of graph/hex paper, cover it with Clear Contact Paper (translucent, vinyl shelf liner), front and back, to waterproof it. After the battle, just wipe out the whiteboard marker drawn on the plastic cover, the permanent grid inside is still pristine. Before Covid Hit, our DM was playing with a putting a piece of glass overtop of the battle map and using window/chalk markers on it.
