About this deal

Trivia Track -- Is a text based fact track about the holiday season, its associated myths, and the production. Optional English (SDH) subtitles, as well as foreign dubs and subs, are offered during the film and select extras. Imagine being engrossed in the heartwarming storyline, and suddenly, you're face-to-face with Buddy's disastrous attempt at singing in the shower.

Favreau's film is family entertainment at its finest, featuring a performance by Ferrell that is at once innocent, tender, and laugh-out-loud funny. For many, Elf is a holiday tradition, and this terrific upgrade will keep it going strong for years to come. Images are sharp, three dimensional, and aside from a few soft shots, detail and fine detail are fairly crisp and sharp. transfer with HDR is a big step up from the 2008 Blu-ray, which literally pales in comparison to this vibrant, crisp, colorful effort.Once the disc is inserted into the player, the static menu with music and dialogue immediately pops up; no previews or promos precede it. While the picture quality of this film has some serious issues, I can recommend this movie on the strength of its content. La VF québécoise n’est pas mauvaise, elle conviendra bien à ceux qui ne connaissent pas déjà ce super film de Noël, mais les puristes habitués à la vraie VF (dont je suis) seront déçus. Kid-Friendly Featurettes (SD, 51 minutes) -- “Film School for Kids” is an entertaining and revealing behind-the-scenes documentary that never talks down to its declared demographic, “Kids on Christmas” introduces a group of kids who talk about aspects of the season, “Deck the Halls” focuses on extreme Christmas decorations and the people who cover their homes in holiday paraphernalia, “Santa Mania” looks at the big guy in red, and “Christmas in Tinseltown” introduces traditional Hollywood celebrations.

It's bright, light, funny, charming, but does not seem trite, forced, or play to the lowest common denominator. However there is not much output below 40hz on this track, so do not expect your sub to shimmy across the floor. If this is the first edition you’re going to own of Elf on physical media, or if you’re upgrading from the Blu-Ray, then don’t even think about it. Papa Elf tells Buddy who his real mother and father are, explains his mother death, and his father's current location. Of course, Caan's recent death made this year's viewing of Elf bittersweet, but it also added more resonance to the actor's low-key, finely nuanced performance.Fast Track Frivolity Makes Elf Even More Festive As Glimpses of the Movie's Magical Making Pop Up While You Watch the Movie. Elf’ may not be everyone’s idea of a Christmas classic, but in the opinion of this family man, it delivers a series of solid laughs, has a healthy dose of holiday spirit, and is sure to slap smiles on both kids and adults. I would even go so far as to say director Jon Favreau (‘Iron Man,’ ‘Zathura’) has made a near-perfect family film in that it will appeal to both children and adults.

Thus begins Buddy's quest to connect with his father, win the affections of a special girl, bring a family back together, and save the spirit of Christmas. However, it's comprised mainly of repurposed material and doesn't come close to delivering the same experience as a PiP track. Married to Emily (Mary Steenburgen), he also has a younger son named Michael (Daniel Tay), who he has pretty much neglected for his career. While newcomers should probably test the waters before diving in, I can’t help but recommend ‘Elf’ this Christmas season.

His deadpan facial expressions and droll line deliveries raise the laugh quotient exponentially and set the madcap tone of Elf, which wouldn't be nearly as memorable without his participation. I do wish Ferrell’s track was funnier and that both men sat down together to record a single, chattier track, but the existing commentaries add quite a bit of value to the Blu-ray’s supplemental package. It seems some remastering has been performed, and the result is a lusher, sleeker picture with less grain that still maintains a film-like feel. The faint print damage that plagued the Blu-ray is gone, fabric textures like fur, tweed, and wool are much sharper, depth is more palpable, blacks are richer, whites are brighter, and the image exudes far more dimension. Buddy’s green costume and Santa’s red fabric particularly pop with such contrast, and are extremely deep in color.
