This is a series that consigns all its toughest storytelling to flashbacks - safe-spaces that are in the past, and can't hurt our characters or readers in the present. As she was done saving up that amount of money, the military comes into the scene and steals the treasure from her as Arlong had possibly bribed them to do. This covers Luffy on his first adventure alone, meeting Zolo (I'm so used to Zoro, not sure why it changed), meeting Nami, and then the first arc with Usopp.
